City Directories and History: 1922 – M.H. Sandifer, H.A. Phagan, 1946 – John K. Windell, 1963 – John K. Windell, 1975 – Mrs. Ruth W. Windell
The Sandifers lived here for many years. Mr. Sandifer owned the Standard Drug Company on Main Street downtown near the Rock Hill Hardware Co. After Mr. Sandifer died his wife and son moved to Texas, and the house was a rental property for a number of years. The most recent family to own the house were Johnny and Ruth Wendell. They are both dead and their son lives there now. The current resident is Terry Windell. (Contributed by Sara R. Gettys, 2.18.2012)
The Herald reported on May 2, 1896 – “Mr. E. C. Martindale has resigned his position at Sandifer Drug Store to accept a similar one in his native town of Columbia. He is succeeded by Mr. W. T. Moore, a clever York boy.”

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
