The SC Architects: 1885-1935 Wells & Dalton, 1992 attributed this building to architect,
Nat Gaillard Walker in 1909.
The RH Record reported on July 1, 1909 – “Sealed proposals will be received by R.L. Sturgis of Rock Hill on July 15 for the erection and completion of a brick veneered residence and hot water heating plant for the same. Plans are on file N. Gaillard Walker, Architect.”
The Herald reported on April 13, 1950 – “The Rock Hill School District has purchased the old Sturgis home for $25,000., the home has eleven rooms and two baths. It was occupied until last Dec., by the John G. Marshall family. The lot is 90 -200′ – the district needs larger office space because it now has eight white school with 4,071 students and four African American schools with 1,703 students.”
