City Directories and History: The Pratt Building was located approximately where the Sharon Grill (2013) currently sits in downtown Sharon, SC. The 1934 Sanborn map below shows the area after the Pratt Building was demolished and the building housing the Sharon Grill had been constructed on the location.
The Rock Hill Record reported on June 10, 1909 in Sharon, “Mr. S.B. Pratt is having a neat store building erected.”
Built circa 1923 (note the above information from the RH Record), by S. B. Pratt; that same year, after Joseph M. Plexico sold his business to J. L. Whitesides, Plexico moved the Farmer’s Mutual Telephone Company “central” into the Pratt Bldg. Central was operated by Miss Alma Erwood. As part of the work relief program of 1934, a sewing room with four machines was set up in one of the brick store buildings built next to the Pratt Bldg. At one time as many as 14 women who were on the relief rolls worked two day a week in the sewing room under the direction of Mrs. B.B.Ferguson. [Contribution by J.L. West]
