The picture of the family in front of the farm house is, left to right, William Juan Poag, Robert Oates Poag, William’s wife Dora Elanor Oates Poag holding Annie Reid Poag, Mary Elizabeth (Miss Bessie) Poag standing next to Sara Louise (Louise) Poag Huey, and James Pressley (Jim) Poag half-behind a tree. Annie Reid was born on May 14, 1898, so the picture would have been taken later that year. William J. Poag died in 1906 and never lived in the house on Johnston Street. All 5 children went to college, the men to Clemson and the women to Winthrop. Miss Bessie was the 10th grade teacher at Winthrop Training School for 50 years. Robert moved to New York state after graduation and his descendants still live there. Annie Reid lived most of her life in Asheville, NC where she taught public school. Jim and Louise lived most of their lives in Rock Hill.
