The WU Pettus Archives holds drawings for Mr. Stultz’s Home by Rock Hill architect, Mr. A.D. Gilchrist dated 1916.
City Directories and History: 1922/23 – J.S. Stultz, 1933 – Mrs. Ida W. Stultz, 1963 – Vacant
The Rock Hill Herald reported on July 24, 1884 – “Mr. J.S. Stultz will soon commence the erection of a dwelling on the vacant lot between the residences of J.B. Johnson and W.A. Steele.” Later the Herald reported on Sept. 18, 1884 – “Mr. J.S. Stultz is erecting a two story dwelling on the lot adjacent that of Mr. W.A. Steele.”
The Rock Hill Herald reported on Nov. 1, 1888 – “Rev. A.D. Chreitzberg, presiding elder of the Methodist Chester District has selected Rock Hill as his residence. He has bought the Stultz home in the west end, presently occupied by Mr. B.M. Fewell for $1,900.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Jan. 27, 1892 – “Reid and Stultz have added a new building for a blacksmith shop.”
The RH Herald reported on Sept. 5, 1918 – “Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Barrette have rented the upper apt. in the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Stultz on Johnston Street.”
The diary of Kate J. Hutchison reported that on March 24, 1934 – “Mr. Stultz is still very sick. I went down there to see Mrs. Stultz, it is very cold today.”
This was the home of local businessman and real estate owner Johnny Stultz who owned numerous rental homes throughout downtown Rock Hill. Mr. Stultz had married into the Reid family and come to Rock Hill to make his living along with many of his in-laws following the Civil War. He was once the owner with his brother-in-law, of Reid and Stultz Furniture Company on East Main Street.
