City Directories and History: 1958 and 1966 – Honorable Joseph R. Moss
Built in 1910, this Prairie style building with medium hip roof is 1’/2 stories high and features a dormer, four columns supporting an open porch with a flat roof, recessed transom and sidelights around the main door, lintels and lug sills around windows, and brick exterior. This was the residence of South Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph R. Moss. [Courtesy of the Yorkville Historical Society – 2002]
*** Note the Moss house is not listed on the 1910 Sanborn Maps, it was most likely constructed next to the Barron house when they divided the lot, left of #111 on the Sanborn map shown.
WU’s Pettus Archives hold architectural drawings from Rock Hill architect, Mr. A.D. Gilchrist for changes to this dwelling for James Moss, Jr., in 1937.
