City Directories and History: 1907 & 1908 – Hugh G. Brown (Jailor and Sheriff), and Alma Brown (York County Sheriff – Prior Building next to the current jail)
The Yorkville Enquirer contained an ad of Feb. 20, 1917 for Brown and Beckham Stables. Hugh G. Brown and James G. Beckam, “we have mules for sale.”
Evening Herald, Oct. 2, 1935, “Reported the Old York Jail built in 1854 and abandoned last spring when the new jail was built, is being demolished. The demolition is being done by convicts under the direction of Supt. C.A. Stewart. The brick are being placed in a hollow at the rear of the building. The steel work is being sold. The old jail was so close to the new one that it kept one side in shadow.”
Oct. 4, 1935, “Solicitor – W.G. Finely has asked the county to delay tearing down the old jail until plans for reusing the old brick can be made.”
