McCord, 1917 – Ms. Antoinette Baughn – Millinery at MDG Co., 1922/23 – Mutual Dry Goods #121 East Main, (#123) Bass Furniture Co. (Bass was @208 E. Main St. earlier in the century), 1946 – J.J. Newberry and Company, 1963 – Friedman’s Jewelry Company, Marilyn Shoes
The Herald reported on Jan. 14, 1903 – “A commission has been issued to the Carolina Furniture Co. of Rock Hill with capital stock of $1,000. The corporators are: E.M. Andrews and J.S. Faulkner of Charlotte and J.S. Lynch of Rock Hill.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on April 4, 1904 – “An ad for the Carolina Furniture Co., at #123 E. Main St., J.C. Helms / Helmes, Manager.” On April 8th, they also reported, “J.R. Davis has been transferred from the E.M. Andrews Furniture Co., in Charlotte, N.C. to the Carolina Furniture Co., of this city. He and his wife will be boarding with S.W. Alexander on Ebenezer Avenue.”
The RH Record reported on June 11, 1908 – Contained an ad – Munn and Rivers, they repair furniture at a reasonable charge. Their shop is back of the Mutual Dry-goods Company.
The Rock Hill Record reported on Feb. 4, 1909 – “Stock is being sold in the Mutual Dry Goods Company. Partners are J.W. Moore, J.B. Sykes, and A.F. Ruff.”
The RH Record reported on Feb. 15, 1909 – “The Mutual Dry Goods Co has been chartered. The Pres. is J.B. Sykes, VP is J. Wilson Moore, and Sec-Tres is A. Fletcher Ruff.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on June 9, 1913 – “That the business formerly conducted on Main Street by John A. Neely will now be Helm’s Meat Market, Mr. J.C. Helms proprietor.” (This may not be the exact location on Main Street.)
The McElwee Store ledger of 1915 states that the Mutual Dry Goods Co., held an account. Partners were: J.B. Sykes, J.W. Moore, A.F. Ruff.
The Rock Hill Herald reported on March 4, 1942 – “The Main St store building previously occupied by Bass Furniture Co., has been leased to the Rogers Store. The company normally operates food stores. The two story building is being remodeled and is 42 ft wide by 105 ft deep.” The Herald later updated to say on April 8, 1942 – “The Little Star Food Store will open at 208 East Main St., across from the Post Office in the building occupied for a number of years by Bass Furniture Store. This will be a self service market operated by Colonial Stores. The company will close the two Rogers Food Stores they operate on Main Street and Park Avenue. W.A. Anderson will be the manager, he has managed the Main Street Rogers Stores.”
