This is approximately the site of what is in 2014 – Millstone Pizza Restaurant. The Rawlinson home served as a rental property for decades for members of first the Caldwell and later Rawlinson families.
The Rock Hill Record on May 28, 1908 – “Conductor Clark of the Southern Railway has moved his family into the pretty house of Mr. J.W. Rawlinson on Caldwell Street.”
The Herald reported, July 25, 1919 – “That the City Investment Company met and selected as site for a new hotel on the Caldwell Street on a vacant lot next to the residence of Roddey Reid. The lot is 70 feet by 138 feet and is owned by Spencer – Cobb – Sturgis. N.G. Walker, the local architect, is drawing plans. It is proposed to be fire stories tall with 45 quests rooms. Other sites suggested were Caldwell and East White and Main and Hampton (the Barber Lot). Dr. W.G. Stevens is a leader in the effort.” [This venture appears to have never moved forward.]
