City Directories and History: The Herald reported on Feb. 27, 1914 – “That fire last night completely destroyed the main building of the old hospital at 112 Clay Street and damaged the west wing. The building was occupied by Mrs. J.E. Hinkle. The building was owned by Dr.’s J.E. Massey, I.A. Bigger and T.R. Carothers. It was erected as a hospital, with the intention of turning it over to the city. A private hospital was conducted about fire years ago but failed, when control was secured by the present owners. Since that time it has been used as a dwelling and the damaged west wing was occupied by a second family.”
Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
