This lovely Neo-Classical home from circa 1901 is known as the Fant house. It was constructed by P.E. Fant, who was the brother<\/p>\n

of the first President and founder of Monarch Mills, Ottaray and Lockhart mills. \u00a0He was also associated in 1912 with the Jno. A. Fant Real Estate Company at 44-46 East Main, at which, J.R. Fant acted as Pres., and D.F. Gilliam worked as Treasurer. His brother, John Alexander Fant lived at 713 East main Street. In 1917, P.E. Fant’s newphew, Mr. W.F. Gilliam acquired the home. In the 1920’s it was sold to the McNally family.<\/p>\n

The 1922 City Directories of Union, SC show that his widow, Mrs. Ora Fant was living in the home at the time. This structure appears to be #246 on the accompanying 1917 Sanborn Insurance Maps of Union, SC.<\/p>\n
