City Directories and History: This page is dedicated to the history of Jonesville, S.C.
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Feb. 14, 1884 – “On Sunday night, the building in which Mr. H.C. Smith lived and kept a store at Jonesville in Union County was burned. Mr. Smith and his wife were barely able to escape with their lives. The building, their stock of goods, and their household furniture were all lost at an estimate of $3,000.”
On Sept. 17, 1890 the Yorkville Enquirer reported – “Prof. N.G. Littlejohn has been elected teacher of the Jonesville High School.”
The Weekly Union Times on Feb. 17, 1893 reported – “A new firm in Jonesville is the R.W. Scott and Co., which has bought the stock of J.N. Lemaster and will remain in the same building. Mr. Scott will be the manager.”
The Rock Hill Record reported on Aug. 10, 1908 – “Yesterday a fire at the Jonesville Knitting Mill in Union Co., resulted in the destruction of the mill at a loose of $450,000.” Also on this date the paper reported – “Mrs. J.D. Orr has resigned her position as music teacher at the Jonesville Graded School and will be replaced by Ms. Carrie Eason.”
