City Directories and History: Established in 1921….
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Aug. 3, 1871 – “The construction of the airline railroad continues. The bridges between Spartanburg and Charlotte are now being constructed and the bridge over the Pacolet River will be 100 ft high and will cost nearly $400,000.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Oct. 26, 1887 – “A northbound passenger train on the airline railroad collided with a south bound freight train about 2.5 miles from Greer’s Station last Thursday. The passengers are dead and nine other severely wounded. Many on the train were returning from the Atlanta Exposition, including a number from York County.”
