City Directories and History: “Boiling springs, six miles north of Spartanburg, was a trading
center and crossroads in the early history of the area. The large bubbling spring, with several heads, gives the community its name. Drovers, taking farm products from their mountain coves to the Low Country, often camped around the spring. Religious meetings were held in the “layby” season and the outgrowth of these meetings was the formation of the Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, one of the largest rural churches in the county.”
