The Swiss Chalet style was one of more popular Exotic Revival styles and was used more an private dwellings than the previous Exotic Revival styles had been. The style was heavily influenced in the United States by A.J. Downing and his books that described the ideal cottage styles. A Swiss Chalet styled home typically had a low-pitched roof with wide, bracketed eaves. These homes were usually built with a second story porch and were often decorated with elaborate and flat trim-work and balustrades. Stick work was also applied to the exterior walls along with large decorative trusses.
This style home was rarely constructed in the Southeastern U.S.
