City Directories and History: This document lists numbers of grist mills throughout Pickens County. It was part of a larger study of grist mills in Upcountry, S.C. – 2005.
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 8, 1884 – “A man named Broughton, who was employed at Kelly’s Saw Mill on Six Mill creek in Pickens County, died on April 22. He was carrying lumber for the saw and fell across the saw.”
The lists includes histories of the following grist mill sites: Arnold’s Mill, Central Roller Mill, Dalton’s Mill, Hagood Mill, Golden Creek Mill, Hamilton Mill, Hendrick’s Mill, Hunter’s Mill, Jameson’s Mill, Kay Mill, Puckett Mill, Lay Mill, Meece Mill, Gravely Mill, Yoder’s Mill, Meece Mill, Nine Times Mill, Cantrell Mill, Price’s Mill, Raxter Mill, Reece Mill, Stewart-Craig Mill, Symmes’ Mill, Sheriff Mill, Simms Mill @ Liberty, Thomas Mill, Winchester Mill @ Shady Grove, Winchester Mill @ Eastatoe Creek, Winchester Mill @ Town Creek, Ballard Mill (Dr. Charles Ballard), Big Laurel Mill, Durham’s Mill (John Durham and Jerry Clement), Galloway Mill (Oscar Galloway), Gasoway Mill, Griffin Mill, Hamilton Mill (Whitten A.
