A Site on the Jefferson Davis Trail
City Directories and History: The historic crossing over the Saluda River, now under Lake Greenwood, was the place Davis traveled from Cross Hill to Cokesbury, S.C.
One was at the plantation of Jonathan Chiles where Watts bridge later was built and still later covered by Lake Greenwood. The other was a 14-year renewal of ferry rights to Robert Swancey. His ferry, later called Puckett’s ferry, was about a mile below the present Cothran bridge spanning Saluda.
