Many of the individually listed schools and churches shown on this section are pictured. The Rock Hill Herald reported on June 10, 1880 – “the stockholders of the Piedmont Factory, having realized a net profit of $86,000. during the past year, intend to double the size of their building.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 25, 1882 – “The Piedmont Manufacturing Co., of Greenville recently held its annual meeting Mr. H.P. Hammett is the President. The net profit for the years was $96,069. The mill has 120 tenant houses most of which have been added in the past year. A new brick warehouse is being built with the capacity of 3,000 bales of cotton. The total value of the property is about $700,000. A school is conducted for the operatives and is managed by Mr. A.E. Miller. There are 185 students enrolled.”
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Aug. 6, 1885 – “The Camperdown Cotton Mills located on the Reedy River near Greenville, were sold last Monday at auction to Col. H.P. Hammett for $70,000.”
On June 1, 1882 the YK Enquirer reported – “The Fishing Creek Manufacturing Co., commenced operation of the mill on May 10. The Supt. is Mr. William H. Steele. He spent many years in the Piedmont Mills, under his father who remains Supt. there. The mill plans to build the dam several feet higher in order to supply more water during the summer.”
