The Yorkville Enquirer reported on Jan. 21, 1886 – “Mr. T.H. Davis, a prominent merchant at Ridgeway has been warned by the regulators of Fairfield to leave that section, and he is preparing to go to Georgia. He has sold his stock of dry goods and clothing to J.L. Mimnaugh of Columbia and is offering his real-estate for sale.”
City Directories and History: The Yorkville Enquirer of Oct. 30, 1889 reported – “During a thunderstorm last week lightening struck the depot at Ridgeway and it was burned to the ground. All the freight in the building was destroyed but the money locked in the safe was saved.”
The official postal map of Fairfield County listed Ridgeway as an active postal site on the railroad.
In the June 2, 1854, issue of The Western Democrat, we find this advertisement soliciting bids for supplying wood at the various stops along the rail line aforesaid. Frederick Nims, general superintendent of the Charlotte & South Carolina Railroad (with an office in Columbia), signed the advertisement and specified the locations of the various wood piles maintained by the railroad:
— Killian’s Mill
— Campbell’s Mill
— Ridgeway (Fairfield Co)
— Simpson’s (Fairfield Co)
— Robertson’s (Fairfield Co)
— Winnsboro (Fairfield Co)
— Albion (?)
— White Oak
— Youngsville
— Blackstock
— Cornwell
— Chesterville
— Lewis T. O.
— Smith’s T. O.
— Ebenezer / Rock Hill (Along the Landsford Road, by Wm. B. White, Jr. Vol., I – 2008)
*** Historian, Harvey S. Teal’s S.C. Post Office History, 1989 states: the “Ridgeway Post Office was operated by John N. Rosborough, Postmaster from 1851 – Civil War.”

And nothing has changed from the 1980 map except we have better parking now in the Cotton Yard. Love my little town. Y’all come see us!

Would love some history and images! How can we make this addition to Ridgeway move forward?
