City Directories and History: 1961 – Economy Drug Store, 1981 – First Insurance Agency
The 1912 Sanborn Map list this as the location of the Masonic Hall #2 but historically it is best
known as one unit of the Norman Building. It houses the Norman’s Dry Good business for decades.
Reminiscences of Old Winnsboro by P. Rion – 1905 states, “The granite building that belongs to Lauderdale and Bryson was … and the first story was occupied by Ketchin (R.S.) and McMaster (G.H.) as a drug store and dry goods store. R.S. DesPortes and Middleton Armstrong were clerks and the second story was the home of the DeKalb Lodge I.O.O.F. “
Interestingly, we know that G.H. McMaster also constructed a new home in circa 1885.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
