Winthrop Un.’s Pettus Archives holds drawing and plans for the J.F Davis and Bro., Store in Winnsboro, S.C. drawn by Rock Hill architect, Mr. A.D. Gilchrist in 1918.
City Directories and History: 1961 – A. E. Davis & Company, 1981 – Cut-Rate Dry Goods/Furniture
The present day Winnsboro Fitness location at 141 N. Congress Street is located in a building built by John F. Davis and his brothers Amos E. and Dr. Thomas L. Davis as
a general merchandise and feed and seed store. Later after buying his brothers’ interest in the store, Amos E. Davis and his son-in-law W. E.”Bill” Haslett ran a Purina farm supply well into the 1980’s in the building. To the right of the A.E. Davis business was the Joe K. Cathcart family’s floral and hardware business after the Second World War. [Information furnished by J.M. Lyles]

In the late 1940’s Lucy Davis Coleman was my roommate in college. I often visited her in Winnsboro. Many nice memories of times spent with the Davis ‘family. Was in her wedding to George Coleman. Do not know if any of Lucy’s children are still in the area.
