City Directories and History: 1961- Belk’s Department Store, 1981 – Carolina Furniture Company
This building is reported to have been constructed in circa 1915.
The location of the Harold Douglas family’s Carolina Furniture Company was at this location. The left side of the Douglas business was owned in the early twentieth century by the [D.V.] Walker family, whose dry goods business, later became the location of the Belk store. This building was owned for three generations by the J. W. Stephenson family. [Information written and submitted to R&R by J.M. Lyles]
