“One of Roots and Recall’s most satisfying pieces of collaborative preservations…”
City Directories and History: A very distinguished antebellum dwelling in disrepair on the Chester and Fairfield County line. This example of architecture, a
decorative cottage, often raised over a full basement, once dotted the Fairfield County landscape in the mid 19th century. The image taken in circa 1940, of this circa 1840’s home, is the same house that has deteriorated so badly and was photographed in 2012 and 2013 by R&R.
The historic survey of this property in circa 1983 recorded it as the home of Dr. T.P. Mitchell’s home and store but historically it was also associated with the W.L. Reid family, at Avon P.O.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
Thanks!
