City Directories and History: The old Chesterfield Courthouse – Jackson home.
This much-altered building dates from the antebellum period. According to tradition, it was used as a courthouse after the 1827 courthouse burned in 1865. Between 1886 and 1900, it was moved to its present location where it served as a school until ca. 1905. Then it was converted to a residence. The building is now one-and one-half stories, of frame construction, five bays wide, with a central cross-gable piercing its gable roof. Two brick chimneys pierce the roof. The interior has been much altered, but remnants of the old school blackboard, some of the original wall boards, and the old doors are still in the house. (SC Dept. of Archives and History)
