City Directories and History: “Worthy, Henry of “Worthy’s Bottoms” plantation. Born May 15, 1800 (S.C.) ; married Nancy Elizabeth Hill (July 14, 1803-Apr. 7, 1861) ; died Jan. 14, 1866. Education: None. Church: Probably nonmember, supported Brushy Fork Baptist. Slaves: 107 (Chester District).”

The Yorkville Enquirer reported on June 4, 1885 – “The ladies of Brushy Fork Baptist Church recently bought a handsome communion set from Mr. R. Brandt. They intend to present it to their church.”
Mr. T.C. Worthy, the son of Henry, served in the CSA Co. B. SC Volunteers and his name appears routinely on the roster of soldiers. See link this page! He is buried at Brushy Fork Cemetery in Chester Co., S.C.
Courtesy of Find a Grave: “Died on the 16th of December, 1884, Mr. T. C. Worthy of Broad River, in the 50th year of his age. Mr. Worthy had been to Columbia with a boat-load of cotton and being exposed a good deal took Pneumonia from which he died after a short illness. Mr. Worthy was one of the largest and most successful farmers of the County and was an influential public-spirited citizen.”

Henry Worthy’s grandson Henry Preston Worthy was my fathers maternal grandfather. It was told through the family that though Henry gave the land for Brushy Fork he believed church was for
women and children. After these years if he ever went to church, is any ones guess.
