City Directories and History: The school at Lando, SC remains one of the only
buildings that once defined the mill town along Fishing Creek near Richburg, SC. Lando, a thriving and highly intact textile community remained a close knit community of homes and families until the close of the mill in the 1970’s.
The historic mill has had a number of owners and operators including members of the Heath family. But one of the most interesting was Ferguson Barber of Rock Hill, S.C. Mr. Barber, the owner-manager of the Lando Mill commuted from his palatial home on Main Street in Rock Hill to the mill in Chester County on nearly a daily basis.
The important history of Lando has been preserved at the Lando Museum in the old mill store at Lando, SC. The trip to this facility is well worth the effort.
