Constructed prior to 1877, this great looking two story, seven bay brick building is truly one of Gadsden Street’s most welcoming buildings. Shops flank a central entrance leading to the upstairs. The shallow corbel brick cornice with it’s moldings over windows adds character to the building. The Sanborn Insurance Map of the area shows this building being used as a general merchandise store and 149 was a drug store, in 1908 it was part of Lindsay Mercantile Company.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
