This ornate house was constructed on the simple Carolina “I” house style as so many were in the mid to late 19th century. What makes this house so unusual were the addition of so much ornate brackets and moldings that were commonly found on high style Queen Anne and Victorian homes. The fancy fretwork was most likely added by the Wachtel family who lived here in the late 1890’s and into the 20th century. He was a partner in the firm of S.M. Jones on Main Street. The house is also reflective of the Henry House that was moved from West End Street to #107 Henry Street. This house was once occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Mannie Wachtel, a retired salesman for S.M. Jones & Company.
