The McAliley Building is one of Chester’s outstanding pieces of architecture, reflecting their rich heritage. Built in the mid 1850’s by Samuel McAliley, the location has also housed the Chief Hotel, reported to have been located here as early as 1835.
The Yorkville Enquirer on April 26, 1877 reported – “On May 1st, the Chester County Sheriff will sell a large brick building on Main Street belonging to Samuel McAliley, Esq., it will be sold to satisfy a judgement against Mr. McAliley by Mr. L.B. Jeter. The property is thought to be worth about $10,000., but hard times may result in a lower price.”
The Yorkville Enquirer on May 10, 1877 followed with – “The sale of the McAliley Building did not take place as scheduled as Mr. McAliley was able to provide the funds to satisfy the judgement.”
