The Rock Hill Herald reported on May 7, 1885 – “The new Pres. Church at Richburg was dedicated last Sunday. The building was completed in about a year at a cost of $1800., and is made of wood. Officers of the church include elders: O.A. Wylie, and George C. Gill, and deacons: J.M. Robinson, J.F. Atkinson, and P.T. Hollis.”
City Directories and History: This dwelling was the manse for the Richburg Presbyterian Church, next door, which burned following a lighting strike to the steeple. The manse, next door, was the home of Rev. Fripp and his family as well as later the Gail family including Mr. Gail who was a teacher a the Winnsboro, SC school know as the Richard Winn Academy. Mrs. Gail was postmistress at Richburg, SC.
The Fripp house, which was next door to the Gale home, had two stories. Two small porches were on either side of an entrance hall. A fence surrounded a yard filled with old fashioned flowers and shrubs, also a large magnolia. In time this was the home of many different families. It was burned while Mrs. Emma Marion, widow of Rev. Preston Marion, lived there. [Memories of Richburg, S.C. by Lucy Clawson]
