City Directories and History: 1908 – W.F. Stricker, also McKee Brothers (Confectioners), 1940 – J. Lyle Hamilton, 1958 – George A. Hennies, 1978 – Lamar H. Kelsey III
The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 15, 1879 – “The Stricker Brothers, since the fire destroyed their shops, have resumed business in temp. quarters. Materials for their new brick shop is being laid down prior to rebuilding.”
“Dr. Hennies has served as county physician since 1921 and has been a director of The Peoples National Bank since 1925. He is a former Lion and has also served as local surgeon for the Seaboard Air Line Railroad since 1937.
In talking with Dr. Hennies Monday about the “good ole days” in Chester he told of the several locations at which he has had his offices located.
“First I had my office at the corner of Main and Wylie Streets in the building now occupied by Byrd’s Flower Shop,” he said, “Then I moved to what is now 128 Main Street (second floor) and from there to 106 Main Street which was the old Pryor building which burned some years ago,” he continued.
Dr. Hennies’ next location was 105 Gadsden Street which was also an upstairs location. This office space, directly above Wylie’s is now being used by a church group. Dr. Hennies’ office before retirement was located at 114 Gadsden Street in the building formerly used by the late Dr. J.L. Hamilton, dentist.”
