City Directories and History: 1910s – Farthing Steam Laundry, 1910/1978 – Chester Laundry and Cleaners
Dr. S.W. Pryor constructed this building for his steam laundry prior to 1908, to serve the Pryor Hospital – also referred to as the Farthing Steam Laundry.
The Rock Hill Record reported on Oct. 8, 1908 – “The Chester Steam Laundry has been put into the hands of a receiver. Dr. S.W. Pryor is the largest stockholder.”
The Yorkville Enquirer of Feb. 13, 1917 reported that high winds last week blew down the smokestack of the laundry in Chester.
