The Yorkville Enquirer reported on May 18, 1882 – “Dr. D.S. Ramseur has leased to Northern parties an asbestos mine near this place and the mining of this mineral will commence soon.”
City Directories and History: The Dr. D.S. Ramseur Home is was one of the first and finest houses in Blacksburg. Constructed in the 1880’s, this Gothic Revival style home, was occupied by Dr. D.S. Ramseur, one of the first three practicing doctors in the town. In the early twentieth century, Ramseur served as mayor of the town. In the
1940’s, the home was purchased by J.B. Quinn, Sr., a banker in the town, and his wife, following the death of Mrs. Sallie Ramsuer. The couple had a son, Jimmie. Under his ownership, the rear porch on the house was enclosed and the extensive original front porches were removed. The home remains in 2016, one of the oldest.
