The Yorkville Enquirer of Nov. 6, 1889 reported – “The Firm of Klinck Wickenburg and Co., engaged in the grocery business for fifty years has failed.”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

City Directories and History:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0JOHN KLINCK HOUSE
\nConstructed 1872; restored 1996 –\u00a0John Henry Devereux, architect<\/span><\/p>\n

“The owner of the grocery at the northeast corner of Broad and Church Streets, (Klinck, Wickenberg, and Company Grocers) constructed this house in 1872 with the assistance of the architect John Henry Devereux. As Klinck\u2019s business expanded, he obviously desired to move out of his old- fashioned residence at 116 Church Street\u00a0and retire to this area where other German families were rebuilding on lots burned out in the fire of 1861. Klinck\u2019s two-story house reflects a mixture of period romantic styles including a two-story Gothic piazza with quatrefoil shaped columns, Italianate style bracketed cornice, and first-floor bay with semicircular headed windows.”<\/p>\n
