City Directories and History: JAMES LADSON HOUSE
Constructed circa 1792; altered after 1884
“In 1792 Lt. Gov. James Ladson erected a two-story single house on a large lot facing a small court then called Ladson Court. The court was not cut through to King Street to become Ladson Street until 1895. The third floor was added in the middle of the nineteenth century, and the Poppenheim family, who purchased the property in 1877, installed bay windows on the first Detail of the fountain at 31 and second floors and erected the Victorian guard house.”
