City\u00a0Directories\u00a0and History<\/span>: \u00a0<\/strong>Known locally as Cedar Knoll,\u00a0 this was the home on Hobkirk Hill of Edward Cantey and later Dr. and Mrs. Ripon W. LaRoche. Built in the 1830’s by General James Willis Cantey, the house remained in that family for decades. In 1921, the Pomeroy family acquired the house and heavily remodeled it adding extensive gardens. The house features\u00a0outstanding woodwork including wide baseboard and wainscoting.<\/p>\n
