City Directories and History: 1925 – Kershaw Motor Company, 1941 – NA, 1964 – Launderette, the Site of the Lafayette Cedar Lafayette Hall This venerable tree is the sole survivor of a double row of cedars set out to celebrate the visit of the Marquis de Lafayette to Camden in 1825. The tree was on the property of John Carter, who placed his new mansion at the disposal of Lafayette. The house, later called “Lafayette Hall,” burned in 1903. [Courtesy of the Camden Tour Book] It was on this lot that the new Kershaw County Court House was constructed in circa 1904 and the location of the current 2013 court house.
