City Directories and History: “The Hamilton House was built ca. 1856 in the Beaufort style but fluences of the Victorian period. The double porches extend across the and around two sides to meet the projecting back rooms. The first-floor is supported by ten heavy hexagonal columns. Both porches have a balustrade. A bracketed cornice encircles the house and belvedere. A which once bordered the edge of the roof and belvedere has been removed. central entrance is flanked by sidelights to the floor.
Behind the house is a one-story frame structure which served as support building. During the Civil War the Hamilton House was used as Hospital No. 1.”
