Broyles, County Jail, Rose Hill, Rucker, Anderson Depot, H.B. Fant, S.H. Prevost, Fair Grounds, T. K. Cater, Whitners. Also around the village; Big Generostee Creek, Ramsey’s Spring, Byrum House, J.W. Daniel’s Gin, J.F. Wilson homeplace, Mt. Tabor Cemetery, H.O. Herr…Mrs. C. Brown, W.D. Evans, Mrs. S.C. Neal, Cox Creek, S. Sharkey, E.B. Cator, D.M. Stephens, Kitty Clyde Farm….

City Directories and History: The B. F. Whitner ‘s House….. and land encompassed a large section west of downtown. See attached enlargeable map this page.

Anderson City Map – 1889 showing the home of Maj. B.F. Whitner “Rose Hill” on West Whitner St., west of downtown Anderson, S.C.

The Herald reported on Oct. 18, 1899 – “Mr. W.C. Whitner and Co., of Anderson have moved their office to Rock Hill and now occupy a suite of rooms in the new Roddey Building. Mr. Frank C. Whitner is in charge of the office.”

The Rock Hill Record reported on April 4, 1907 – “Major B. F. Whitner, formerly of Anderson, is now living in Rock Hill with his son William and has sold his handsome home in Anderson. It was located in the western part of the city known as Rose Hill and included eight acres. The property has frontage on Whitner and Webb Streets. It was bought by J.M. and G.W. Evans.”
