City Directories and History: R&R has divided the 1938 SCDOT map of Hampton County into (23) sectional maps. Many of the individually listed schools and churches shown on this section are pictured. However, in many cases, the individual site also has its own post on R&R, which often provides added information and image. Be wise and use the search function to locate all of the entries for this and other homeplace listings.
This map may be viewed in its entirety by clicking on HOME to return to the SCDOT index page.

Please enjoy this structure and all those listed in Roots and Recall. But remember each is private property. So view them from a distance or from a public area such as the sidewalk or public road.
Do you have information to share and preserve? Family, school, church, or other older photos and stories are welcome. Send them digitally through the “Share Your Story” link, so they too might be posted on Roots and Recall.
Thanks!

I am curious re the Hickory Grove Community in the northeastern section of Hampton County, generally, and in the earliest families specifically. My mother was a Platts, and several of her aunts and uncles married neighbors, some of whom were also cousins: Lightsey, Loadholt (x2) Jenny, Harter, Williams (x2, sons of Allen Cornelius “Nick” Williams and Harriett Cone),. I would like to locate all their home places on 1930 Hampton County and adjoining Allendale County maps. Other related families include Miley, Mole, Thomas, and Barnes. An extended Priester family has been a neighbor since before the Platts family migrated from the Rivers Bridge section, Barnwell District, to Upper Prince William Parish, Beaufort District, in the early 1840s, and an extended Platts-Johnson-Hay-Loadholt African American family has been a good neighbor since the Civil War.

We hope you can easily research address and family names on Roots and Recall. Much of what is in Hampton County has come directly from survey work conducted in the 1970-80s by the S.C. Dept. of Archives and others via the local regional government. Using the maps, the digital resources (see menu page), and more, much of what you are searching might be found. Please share and add your stories on the pages of R&R as you move forward. Good hunting!
