City Directories and History: Erected in 1901 at the intersection of Congress and Washington Streets, by the
Ladies Memorial Association, this monument was moved to the present location in 1962. It now is showcased on the grounds of Mt. Zion School along with other historic monuments.
Fairfield County furnished six companies in the 6th S.C.V., two companies in the 12th S.C.V., one company in the 1st S.C.V, one company in the 7th S.C. Battalion, and two companies of cavalry.
