Roots & Recall has been working with several talented individuals to create R&R’s Preservation from the Heart videos. This venture is completely a volunteer effort to capture and tell stories of those who are quietly making a difference. The first three videos were offered to users and subscribers on R&R’s homepage as well as on Vimeo, but apparently few From the Porch subscribers have viewed them. We know every one of you would love the videos, if only we had done a better job of informing subscribers. So here we go, the first of the three videos, captures the excitement of a middle age gentleman, who has acquired his perfect historic country getaway in Newberry County. The second, a beautiful lady telling her story through an expression of love for her rural homeplace. And the third is the remarkable story of a man purchasing and preserving a piece of Southern culture associated with his childhood. Each of these is a beautiful tribute to the architecture they love as well as to the individuals themselves. The video production crew was taken aback by the remarkable story of each!
These videos have already received enormous numbers of viewings, thousands but it appears only a few of the From the Porch subscribers have connected with them. So, as the co-founder of R&R, I urge you to take time to not only view them but also take a moment to share these amazing productions with your community and friends.
R&R’s Preservation from the Heart videos are a tribute not only to the individuals featured in the footage but also to the production crew which captured the essence of each historic site. R&R plans to continue producing these videos, year after year, for preservation of memories and stories. But perhaps even of equal value, they are a reminder of just how many individuals from different walks of life benefit from history and historic preservation.
If you know of a similar story worthy of capturing please let us hear from you. You may also note that under the Donate tab on R&R’s homepage, there is an explanation as to how you might financially assist in continuing this important preservation effort.
